  A Brief History

  • 1925: God identified himself to the first group of mediums on Christmas Eve

  • 1926: The "Declaration of the Cao Đài Religion" was sent to the French Governor of Cochinchina on October 17

  • 1926: An inauguration ceremony took place in Tây Ninh province which lasted for three months from November 18

  • 1927: The new Canonical Codes and the Religious Constitution were instituted

  • 1927: Construction of the Holy See started 

  • 1931: The number of followers reached 500,000

  • 1934: Attendance by Mr. Gabriel Gobron, instructor in France of Caodaism, at the International Spiritualism Congress in Barcelona

  • 1934: Disincarnation of the Acting Pope Thượng Trung Nhựt

  • 1935: The Book of Prayers was published, which is considered the Bible of the Faith

  • 1936: Leadership of the Faith was entrusted to His Holiness Hộ Pháp by the Sacerdotal Council and the Popular Council

  • 1936: Cao Đài delegates participated in the World Congress of Religions in London

  • 1938: The Charity Body was established with the primary goal of relieving sufferings

  • 1940-1946: His Holiness Hộ Pháp was sent into exile in Madagascar by the pro-Nazi French

  • 1947: Construction of the Holy See completed after 20 years of continual work

  • 1948: His Holiness Hộ Pháp conversed with the French governor to restore independence to Vietnam

  • 1948: The Temple of the Mother Buddha was completed in Trí Giác Cung (Realm of Awakening)

  • 1948-1949: His Holiness Hộ Pháp preached about the Divine Path to Eternal Life, which is one of the most important scriptures of the Cao Đài Religion

  • 1956: His Holiness Hộ Pháp was forced into exile in Cambodia by the Southern Republic

  • 1957: His Holiness Thượng Sanh (Head of Secular Affairs) and the Thời Quân (Lords of Zodiac) returned to the Holy See to lead the Faith

  • 1959: Disincarnation of His Holiness Hộ Pháp

  • 1971: Disincarnation of His Holiness Thượng Sanh

  • 1975: Take-over by the new government, the Sacerdotal Council dissolved and all communication with the Divine prohibited

Since 1975, the Cao Đài Holy City in Việt Nam has fallen into the control of the local secular government. The Cao Đài Faith is striving for the re-establishment of the true Holy Body (Sacerdotal Council) and sovereignty. God has left our future in our own hands. Only when His true children rebuild their Holy Home will we belong to the same family of the same Father.
